Picture Perfect
Have breakfast-in-bed in style by turning an old picture frame into a one-of-a-kind breakfast tray.
Garage sale gurus Mary Crighton and Amy Sims know what it takes to be ultimate crafters. This mother-daughter team transforms used items into antique treasures that they sell in their shop, 2 Ladies & a Junk Store (517 E. New Melville, Willard, 417-848-1798). Mary’s granddaughter, Madison Craig, runs the shop from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. every Saturday. Although it’s open only a few hours a week, 2 Ladies & a Junk Store is a must-visit spot if you’re looking for a perfectly unique item for your home. The two shared step-by-step directions on turning an old picture frame into a fabulous new breakfast tray.
Supplies:
• 1 large picture frame
• 1 photo or fabric piece
measured to fit inside frame
• 2 old pieces of silverware
• 4 wood screws
• drill
• screwdriver
• needle-nose pliers
To Make the Breakfast Tray:
1. Take frame apart and set aside glass and back of frame.
2. Bend silverware into a handle shape, leaving about 1 inch of each end straight so that they can lay flat against the frame. If you choose to use forks, you can use needle-nose pliers to bend the tines into a
fun pattern.
3. Drill holes into both ends of the silverware without drilling too close to the end of the utensil.
4. Using a screwdriver, attach silverware to frame using two wood screws per utensil. These are now the handles of your breakfast tray, so make sure you place them across from each other.
5. Reassemble frame with whatever photo or fabric you would like as a base.
