Chinoiserie-style pumpkins are a big trend in fall decor this year, but when I went to find some for my own home I came back empty handed. So I decided to make my own! This D.I.Y. is not only easy, it’s kid friendly. You could even give new life to old plastic pumpkins you have laying around. Simply find some plastic or ceramic pumpkins and give them a base coat of paint.

The pattern I wanted to use was white and blue and my pumpkins were orange, so I painted them white so the orange color wouldn’t show through. Just regular acrylic paint works great, but you could tape off the stem and spray paint them to save a bit of time. Then I grabbed some beautiful chinoiserie printed napkins I picked up from The Thicket. They have a beautiful array of napkins to choose from and they make the best material to decoupage.

Using Mod Podge waterbase sealer I painted bits of the napkins onto each of my pumpkins trying to create a pattern I liked. You do want to peel the back off the napkins so they adhere to the pumpkin easily. Once you like the look of your design, just give your little works of art time to dry. You’ll know they’re dry because the Mod Podge will be clear and no longer white. Use your pumpkins as part of a tablescape for fall dinners or decorate your mantle or buffet with them. The look is much more chic than ordinary orange pumpkins!
