June

Blueberries are often labeled a superfood, with a tart taste and big health benefits. June is the time to enjoy this tasty fruit.

Green beans are also a June must-have. With so many recipes like Southern-style green beans and green bean casserole, it’s a summer staple.

The best time to rake in the heart-health benefits of local raspberries is June, as this time is peak growing season.

July

Tomatoes are one of the top scores for local produce at the farmers market. Snag them while they are ripe in July.

Nothing says Fourth of July like a fresh locally grown watermelon from the farmers market.

Sweet corn is another top local pick at the market. The taste is incomparable during midsummer at the crop’s peak.

August

Cantaloupe is perfect for daily snacking, and it also makes a great side dish for your end-of-the-summer barbecues.

Peaches should also make your August market shopping list. When grown locally, Missouri peaches have a taste like no other.

Sweet potatoes can be used in all of your summer recipes, no matter what’s on the menu. Many produce suppliers keep their stands stocked with sweet potatoes in late summer.
