Stop by Springfield Art Museum to attend opening day for a traveling exhibit called “Ubuhle Women: Beadwork and the Art of Independence,” a collection of bead art created by a community of women living and working together in South Africa. These artists hand-sew colored Czech glass beads to plain black fabric to create stunning visual masterpieces that each can take more than 10 months to complete. The subject matter can be either abstract or figurative but always showcases meticulous skill and unrelenting ambition. The exhibit runs through November 10.
Museum hours are: Sundays 1–5 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Thursdays 10 a.m.–8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; For info, call 417-837-5700 or visit sgfmuseum.org.
