A good dip is hard to beat. It can steal the show at a party. It can impress a co-worker at a potluck, and, with the addition of a glass of wine, it can make a lazy but satisfying dinner in front of the TV. We asked the masterminds behind some of our favorite 417-land dips to share their recipes so you can whip up these crowd-pleasers at home. Just keep the double dipping to a minimum, lest you get caught committing the ultimate party foul.

Take a Spin

The Pitch Pizza & Pub (924 E. Sunshine St., Springfield, 417-368-0277) might be known for pizza, but its spinach dip has developed quite a following of its own. A healthy dose of cream cheese adds plenty of richness, while lemon juice brightens up the whole dish. This appetizer will go quickly, so be sure to snag a few bites before you serve it to your friends.

Cheers to Fondue!

The Guinness fondue from Mudlounge (321 E. Walnut St., Springfield, 417-865-6964) has been a longtime favorite of downtown Springfield. This cheesy dip is made even better with the addition of Guinness, and it couldn’t be simpler to make. What’s not to love?

Not Your Mama’s Hummus

Sometimes hummus can be a little humdrum. Switch things up with this recipe from The Order (305 E. Walnut St., Springfield, 417-851-5299), which uses black beans in place of chickpeas for a fun twist on a Middle Eastern classic. The result is a delicious and—bonus!—healthy snack.
