A Bathroom Remodel to Dream About

Jason Bekebrede of Monticello Homes and Development helped Carol Wheeler transform her 1950s-era bathroom into a dream-worthy space equipped with a jetted tub, granite countertops and plenty of storage space.

Carol Wheeler 1950s Bathroom Remodel
Photo by Kevin O’RileyCarol Wheeler gave her remodeler a photo ripped from an old magazine to help give her 1950s-era bathroom a fresh new look.

When you walk into Carol Wheeler’s master bathroom, the first thing you see is the brilliantly black granite vanity, which is contrasted by two white sinks. Long gone are the 50’s-era pink sinks that used to be in the space. And instead of the old gray tile, black granite tile from Signature Granite now sits in their place. “Basically the bathroom had gray tile, a pink bathtub, a pink toilet and a pair of pink sinks,” says Wheeler. “My house is more than 50 years old, and it was the original bathroom. It was long due for a makeover, and I wanted a jetted tub, granite countertops, two sinks in the same countertop and adequate linen storage.”

Wheeler worked with Jason Bekebrede of Monticello Homes and Development to redesign and reconfigure the space. The old bath was big, but not very practical. Bekebrede combined the two vanities to one countertop with two sinks to allow for more room. Wheeler says she flipped through home magazines for ideas, which is where she found a photo for a bathroom. “I kept that picture for almost three years,” says Wheeler. “A picture is worth a thousand words when you are trying to explain to someone what you want.”

The new bathroom has a traditional look with crown molding, new shiny fixtures and a new tub. The entire room was designed in grays and whites with a little bit of black, and Wheeler is very pleased with it. “They did a really fantastic job upstairs,” she says. “Jason is an absolute jewel when it comes to sitting down and talking about your ideas. He really has a great vision.”
