On September 28, 2012, a group of 100 guests gathered at John and Beth Raidel’s east Springfield home for An Evening Under the Stars, an upscale dinner party that benefited the Springfield Workshop Foundation. When guests arrived at 6 p.m., they enjoyed cocktail hour music under the direction of Allison Steiner. Cocktail hour led to dinner, where guests enjoyed a six-course meal prepared by Chef Jennifer Smith of The Traveling Chef and Chef Nicola Gilardi of  Nicola’s Ristorante. Live entertainment by a string trio from The Stanton Strings accompanied the meal, and guests listened to remarks by Dave Dunn, executive director of the Springfield Workshop Foundation.

The Menu: A six-course meal prepared by Chef Jennifer Smith of the Traveling Chef and Chef Nicola

Gilardi of Nicola’s Ristorante included a delicious English pea purée, smoked trout paté, gorgonzola and apple puff pastry, beet salad with bacon shortbread, pumpkin-stuffed ravioli, lime sorbet whipped with champagne, prime beef tenderloin, sea bass and cheese pastry with vanilla cream.

 


 

The Décor: Event coordinator Martha Wright of Gracious Occasions, Inc. added a clear-top tent near the pool, creating an elegant setting. Floral décor was designed by Ron Johnson of The Nest, and Wright and her staff brought the tables to life with hints of gold, cream and black. The interior of the Raidel home also provided an elegant backdrop.

TOP-NOTCH AFFAIR: The menu included Chef Nicola Gilardi's roasted garlic cream sauce, plus gorgonzola cheese sauce, mint saffron sauce and salad with fig, goat cheese, pumpkin seeds, radish and beets (below). Guests were greeted with champagne upon arrival (above right), and they enjoyed listening to live music under the direction of Allison Steiner during cocktail hour.
