Sprigs of fresh mint

Silver julep cups
Boil sugar and water together for five minutes to make a simple syrup. Let cool and place in a covered container with six to eight sprigs of fresh mint. Refrigerate overnight. When ready to serve, fill julep cup with crushed ice. Add one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of whiskey. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
